Chapter One :Chapter 1

"Let's break up. Move out of this villa by tomorrow. I've already canceled your card. Don't bother me at school either; we're done."

Brielle Carter had just opened her eyes when she heard that frigid voice. Lifting her gaze, she was met with the strikingly cold but undeniably handsome face of a young man.

He was still quite young, yet his sharp features and composed demeanor hinted at the commanding figure he would undoubtedly become in the near future—a guy who could easily make countless girls swoon.

So, this was her target?

Brielle rubbed her aching forehead, her voice a bit hoarse. "Archie Rivers, do you honestly not believe me?"

Archie cast her another glance, his expression brimming with undisguised disdain.

"You're lucky I found Brilliana in time. Otherwise, you'd be in jail right now, not here."

Tall and imposing, he loomed over her, exuding an air of suppressed authority that was almost suffocating.

Brielle looked at him, her emotions tangled. "Archie Rivers, I never thought we’d end up like this. Are you really breaking up with me? Not even willing to hear my side?"

"Everything happened right in front of me. What’s there to explain?"Archie Rivers tossed out his last words coldly, then turned and strode off. The sound of the door clicking shut echoed sharply in the room.

Brielle Carter realized she was still sprawled on the floor. Slowly, she pushed herself up, moving gingerly. Apart from the throbbing ache in her head, her body seemed fine.

Taking a moment to gather herself, she started sorting through the storyline she had inherited.

The original Brielle Carter was an orphan who had grown up on charity. At seventeen, she got into one of the top two universities in the country, majoring in arts.

She was stunningly beautiful. Becoming the campus queen from the moment she enrolled wasn’t a surprise. Her mesmerizing performances at major events only made her shine brighter, winning the admiration of countless boys on campus.

Falling for Archie Rivers seemed like something out of a dream. Unlike the others, Archie had been enamored with her since high school. He once saw her secretly feeding a stray cat, looking like an angel in his eyes. That memory left such a deep impression that she occupied his heart from that point on.

When they discovered they were attending the same university, Archie pursued her passionately. As the school’s high-and-mighty heartthrob, his stunning looks could rival any celebrity. With a father at the helm of a leading business empire, Archie’s prominence soared the moment he set foot on campus. The original Brielle Carter never thought someone as amazing as him would pursue her. He treated her so well, almost like he was perfect. Though she was mature for her age, she couldn’t help but fall for him, and soon enough, they became the golden couple everyone envied.

But Brielle wasn't the leading lady of this story.

Instead, Brilliana Evans entered the scene—a lively, sunny girl from a humble background who enrolled a year after them. Classic romance vibes, right? Pretty soon, because of an endless stream of "coincidences," Brilliana kept running into Archie Rivers. They ended up in the same club and were even in the same department, bonded as senior and junior.

Brilliana was mischievous and full of quirks—the kind of girl who could rile Archie up in seconds. Somehow, through all the teasing and annoyance she caused him, they started to get close. And yeah, he began to feel something for her.

Brielle was sharp—she noticed the shift quickly. Archie, her ideal boyfriend, seemed drawn to another girl. No matter how perfect she appeared outwardly, deep down, she was just a young woman hopelessly in love with him.

Unable to hold back, she subtly started targeting Brilliana. It wasn’t too obvious, but Brilliana caught on to her dislike pretty fast. And what did she do? She went straight to Archie and told him everything.

His instinctive reaction? He sided with Brilliana.

Archie’s protectiveness over Brilliana was the final straw. It pushed Brielle to a darker place. From then on, she kept trying to discredit Brilliana—prying chances to humiliate her, stirring up trouble wherever she could. She'd "stake her claim" in front of Brilliana repeatedly, as if trying to take back whatever control she thought she had left.

In Brielle's head, this was what revenge looked like. What are the odds that things would spiral out of control this badly? One of the original character’s admirers, unable to stand by while his goddess was humiliated by some random lowkey girl, decided to take matters into his own hands. He had Brilliana Evans locked in a school restroom overnight and even dumped a whole bucket of ice-cold water on her.

The next day, when Archie Rivers found Brilliana, she was already running a fever so bad it turned into pneumonia. She ended up hospitalized for a whole week before she started getting better.

Archie blamed everything on the original character. In his eyes, her entire image collapsed. His disappointment was palpable, and no matter how much she tried to explain herself, he wasn’t having it. That was the end of their relationship.

Desperate to win him back, she messed up even more. Her attempts backfired, and she became the target of scorn across campus. Eventually, she dropped out and fell seriously ill, passing away in a cold, snow-covered rental apartment.

When Brielle Carter crossed over, it was right at the point where Brilliana was in the hospital, and Archie had just broken up with the original character.

As an art student, the original character had planned to work part-time to fund her studies. But Archie, back when he was still her boyfriend, didn’t want her to struggle like that. He had taken care of all her expenses so she could focus entirely on her education. Now that they had broken up, she was left with nothing.

---

Clearly, this starting scenario wasn’t exactly ideal, but Brielle could feel her competitive streak kicking in.

After her death, Brielle’s soul had been captured by the Main System. She had worked for it ever since, earning herself a shot at rebirth. As an award-winning actress, Brielle Carter had unmatched talent when it came to acting. Her missions never failed, and she quickly rose to be the system’s star performer.

Not long ago, she was transferred from the Heroine Department to the White Moonlight Division. This department operated differently—before, Brielle could rely on existing storylines and merely act along. Now, her task was to rewrite the ending.

In many romance novel worlds, the "white moonlight" archetypes shared a similar fate. They were often the ideal women in the eyes of male leads and supporting characters but inevitably lost their shine due to the heroine’s arrival. It was a predictable downfall: their dignified personas crumbled, intelligence plummeted, and they turned from celestial dream to unremarkable ruin. They ended up despised, discarded as the plot demanded a tragic exit.

Brielle’s role was to cross into these characters’ lives and rewrite their stories. Without the interference of rigid plots, they wouldn’t have suffered such heartbreaking endings, let alone made those self-destructive choices that alienated everyone.

And now, she was in her first assigned world.

“Please select your cheat ability,” the monotone voice of the system rang out.

Unlike following pre-written narratives, overturning existing ones meant directly opposing the consciousness of these miniature worlds. Even sending Brielle in drained a huge amount of energy.

Because of this, the system was constrained to providing assistance only once per mission.Brielle Carter had to make this decision carefully—it was crucial to completing her task.

“I choose to activate the terminal illness for the original host now.”

The system lagged for a long time before its mechanical voice came through again. “The onset date for the terminal illness has been moved forward. In a month, the host will begin experiencing symptoms. Without intervention, the original host is expected to die within a year.”

“Got it. Thanks.”

The system went silent. In this particular world, it had to remain dormant to ensure it could extract the host once the mission was complete.

Brielle knew she’d be on her own from now on, but that didn’t faze her.

She stepped into the original host’s room. It was unmistakably the space of someone with exceptional taste in design.
